Stirlingshire Garden

This project transforms a farm steading courtyard in rural Stirlingshire into a large private garden for an extended family. The garden is enclosed on three sides by original farm buildings, a listed house and renovated outbuildings that have been converted into further accommodation and office space for the owners. The design utilises yew hedges and pleached trees to structure the space and give privacy on one side to the accommodation whilst framing a large lawn and paved gathering space in the centre. Specimen trees are carefully positioned to punctuate the courtyard, and rectangular beds which contain mixed herbaceous planting add aesthetic and ecological value throughout the seasons. Re-use of natural stone paving from the previous courtyard was integrated into the design saving on cost and use of natural resources.
