Scottish National Gallery

The National Galleries of Scotland appointed a Hoskins Architects led team including Rankinfraser in 2014, via a competitive tender process, for the new Scottish Collection Gallery on The Mound, Edinburgh. Our design reinterprets the relationship of the Galleries to Princes Street Gardens via a new public square at Princes Street level and a new and widened terrace associated with the Gallery at the Westin Link level. Appropriately scaled steps and accessible ramps link these spaces.  A grass terraced embankment links the Gallery level terrace to the lowest level of the gardens providing seating opportunities in good weather. The project is now complete with The National now open to the public.
